In collaboration with OpenThread, Telink now provides developers with a platform to create IoT devices compatible with Thread® for seamless product development.

Shanghai, China, September 22, 2023 — Telink Semiconductor Co., together with Google’s OpenThread group, has launched Telink Codelab, an online platform designed for developers to simplify the Thread® development process. This move signifies Telink’s continued efforts as a leading international wireless IoT chip company to promote the widespread implementation of advanced wireless communication technology for the Internet of Things (IoT).

“With Telink Codelab, we’re able to build a stronger collaborative environment with developers looking to leverage our multi-protocol IoT chips to create the next generation of technology,” said Wenjun Sheng, CEO at Telink Semiconductor. “We’re excited to see how this forum can further expand creativity and convenience for consumers worldwide.”

Released by Google, OpenThread is an open-source hub for developers wanting to streamline product development using the Thread® network protocol. Thread is a reliable and secure wireless mesh network protocol widely used in resource-constrained devices in smart homes and commercial buildings. IPv6-based and best in low-power applications, Thread delivers simplicity, security, and scalability, even in multi-vendor environments.

Through Telink Codelab, developers can more easily integrate OpenThread into their applications through Zephyr RTOS to achieve seamless compatibility with Telink hardware. The integrated source code can be accessed here on the Telink GitHub account.

Telink Codelab allows developers to create and manage Thread networks with real hardware and exchange messages between nodes. The necessary hardware setup includes a Linux machine with two or more USB ports, a Raspberry Pi 3B+ (or a more recent version) installed with the Raspbian OS Image, an internet-connected switch or router, and two sets of B91 development kits. For software, developers will need a Telink Burning and Debugging Tool, a serial port terminal tool, Git for set up, and West for project building. Developers can obtain information about the B91 development kit through this guide on Telink Semiconductor’s website or purchase the kits directly on Mouser.

The Telink Codelab platform provides step-by-step instructions, recommendations, and images to make installation and development a breeze. The launch of Telink Codelab marks Telink Semiconductor’s latest stride in driving IoT technology development. As the first domestic chip platform within the OpenThread group, Telink has further enhanced its technological prowess, offering developers stronger support to create innovative IoT devices more rapidly and efficiently, thereby propelling the development of the IoT industry.
